Asked why they joined Odevo, both Jan Lundequist, Chief Product & Technology Officer, and Björn Brauel, Chief Technology Officer, point to the same thing: opportunity.

For Jan, it was a chance to define what the next level of the industry would look like.

“At Odevo, we’re building solutions from the ground up, not just fine-tuning what already exists. There’s so much value to unlock, for our clients and for our employees. Combining our knowledge in tech, closeness to our customers, and now AI, to simplify everyday work and deliver a better experience for all users.”

Björn agrees. Coming from a long career in software engineering, what stood out was the scale of both the challenge and the opportunity.

“Residential property management is a domain where technology maturity is surprisingly low. That makes it incredibly exciting. There’s no blueprint, no copy-paste solution. You can be creative and make a difference.”

Working in the tech-team
At Odevo, technology is built for the users. The teams build solutions for their own colleagues and for people like themselves, tools that directly improve how homes are managed and experienced. That closeness to the user shapes the culture.

Jan expands, “Ideas are welcomed from everyone, regardless of role or seniority, and innovation is actively encouraged through cross-team collaboration and initiatives like Lab Days, where teams step outside the roadmap to test new concepts. Many of those ideas evolve into real products.”

As the organisation grows, there is also a conscious effort to refine ways of working, continuous learning, and strengthen the tech organisation itself. Together with internal career opportunities, and a shared curiosity this is the environment Jan and Björn are shaping.

An industry ready for change
“This is a sector that, in many places, still runs on 90s-era software,” Jan says. “In some markets we’ve had great tech, but in others, colleagues were still relying heavily on pen, paper, and post-it notes. That’s a challenge for our employees today and an enormous opportunity going forward.”

For Björn, that contrast is exactly what makes the work meaningful.

“If you want to innovate and move this industry forward, technology is not optional, it’s the fundamental enabler. But the goal is never tech for tech’s sake, it’s better outcomes for the people living in the buildings and our employees delivering the service.”

Tech in Odevo

We are developing and establishing partnerships for tech solutions across our three core domains and selected ancillary areas.

The future is built on data
All Odevo’s solutions, from simplified internal operations to better client and resident experiences, are powered by data.

“We’re not in a transaction business. We’re in a data business,” Jan says. “Managing and curating data doesn’t just solve today’s problems; it opens the door to entirely new services. From integrated resident payment solutions to optimising building insurance, energy usage, or maintenance planning.”

Unlike many legacy industries, tech at Odevo isn’t a side project or an isolated department. It is embedded in the business.

“Our product and engineering teams sit close to the operations,” Jan explains. “They work next to property managers and accountants, see the challenges first-hand, and build tools and value-added services to solve real problems. That’s how we make sure we’re focusing on what truly matters.”

This setup allows Odevo to move fast. With more than 150 tech and product experts across all markets, development happens in short iterations and is driven by continuous user feedback.

Björn highlights why this matters for new features.

“We focus a lot on reducing cycle time, not as a metric for its own sake, but because it means that great ideas that make a difference reach customers faster. Fewer handovers, less overhead, more room to experiment and learn. That’s where innovation happens.”

AI as an accelerator – for the business and for the engineers
With the constant goal of creating better experiences for clients and colleagues, AI is becoming a central part of Odevo’s strategy.

“We realised early on that AI would be transformative for our industry,” says Jan.

“Property management involves large volumes of unstructured information, much of it handled manually, which makes it a natural area for AI to automate repetitive tasks, extract insights, and simplify workflows. What has accelerated even more recently is how AI is changing software development itself, allowing us to move faster from idea to product and rethink what is possible.

AI is now embedded across Odevo’s roadmap. Dedicated teams are developing solutions to improve core service processes, while AI assistants and agents are being rolled out across the company to help employees work more effectively. At the same time, Odevo is transforming its product development organisation to adopt what Jan describes as an “agentic-first” approach.

For Björn, the impact is clear from both a business and engineering perspective.

“One is how AI helps us solve real problems for our customers and make users more efficient. But it’s also fundamentally changing how software is developed,” he says. “We expect to spend much less time on routine coding and debugging, and more time focusing on user experience, architecture, and creative solutions. AI allows us to move much faster from idea to a working product.”

Why join Odevo?
When asked why a product or engineering professional should join, their answers are in agreement.

“You’ll get to build things for the real world,” Jan says. “Meaningful problems that are screaming out to be solved. In a place where you’re trusted, challenged, and supported.”

Björn adds: “If you want to work at the forefront in a practical, impactful way, this is a rare opportunity. Our domain allows us to use the latest AI-tools without many of the constraints you find elsewhere.  At Odevo, technology and AI help our teams tackle more complex problems, improve services for customers, and deliver greater impact.”
